Hello, World!

Welcome to chavblog — a small, hand-built corner of the internet where I plan to write about whatever I find worth writing about.

Every blog starts the same way: a blank page, a blinking cursor, and the mild embarrassment of typing the words “Hello, World!” into a text editor as if you’re the first person to ever do it. And yet here we are.

I’ve been meaning to start a blog for years. Not because I have anything particularly important to say — I don’t think I do — but because I’ve found that writing things down is one of the better ways to figure out what you actually think about them. Notes to yourself are fine, but there’s something about the act of publishing, even on a quiet site with no audience, that forces a little more honesty and care.

What this place is for

I don’t want to over-define it before it exists, but roughly: this will be a place for things I’m working on, links I found interesting, thoughts that got too long for a note, and occasional deep dives into topics I’m curious about. No particular niche. No content strategy. Just writing.

If that sounds dull, it might be! But I’d rather have a small, genuine thing than a polished, hollow one. The bar for posting here is “I thought this was worth writing down,” not “this will perform well.”

Why Neocities?

Partly nostalgia, partly principle. There’s something appealing about a platform whose entire purpose is to let people put up weird little websites without a monetization layer attached. No algorithm deciding what gets seen. No engagement metrics trying to make you post more. Just files on a server and a URL you can give to people.

I also like that it’s a little manual. Writing HTML and CSS by hand keeps things simple and legible. I know exactly what’s on the page because I put it there.

What’s next

I have a few posts drafted already: a roundup of tools I’ve been using, some notes on a project I’ve been chipping away at, and a longer piece about why I think keeping a blog in 2026 is actually a reasonable thing to do. Those will show up soon.

For now, this is enough. The cursor stopped blinking. The page exists. Hello, world.
